Movies: Top 5 Halloween Movies
Halloween is just around the corner and at least part of it has to be spent scaring yourself silly at the cinema, on the sofa or even huddled around an iPhone in a tent watching a scary movie – here is madeupchart.com’s pick of the best halloween movies…
5. Scream (1996)
Now an undisputed slasher classic, Scream brings back memories of watching it at sleep overs when I was far too young to be doing so. Even if you just stick it on for the iconic opening sequence starring Drew Barrymore, this is a film that deserves at least an annual spot in your viewing line-up of halloween movies.
Streaming now on Netflix.
4. The Cabin In The Woods (2011)
Recently released on DVD and Blu-ray, TCITW takes you somewhere totally unexpected for what is on the face of it a fairly typical setup of group of unfeasibly good looking teenagers head to remote location where things go wrong. Definitely worth a watch if you are intent on staying on the sofa but fancy a taste of something new.
Out now on DVD, Blu-ray and download.

3. Frankenweenie (2012)
Disney and Tim Burton have teamed up for the full length version of Tim’s original 1984 short about a boy trying to bring his dog back to life after being knocked down by a car. It is all in the dark style of The Nightmare Before Christmas and, while it won’t have you hiding behind a cushion or running for the parking lot, it sets the halloween mood perfectly.
In cinemas October 5.
2. Wolf Creek (2005)
In stark contrast to Frankenweenie comes the gritty and disturbing Wolf Creek. Supposedly based on true events, it tells the terrifying story of a group of back packers who end up lost in the Australian outback. Just when you think it can’t get any worse it does. This one won’t leave you with a happy halloween glow by the time the credits roll.
Rent or buy on iTunes.
1. Paranormal Activity 4
When a movie franchise reaches its fourth incarnation you usually begin to wonder whether it is really worth it. In the case of Paranormal Activity that does not apply. Having only recently plucked up the courage to watch the first three, even the thought of this new instalment has the colour draining from my face. It is sure to be this halloween’s must-see movie and guaranteed to have you jumping, screaming and then laughing repeatedly for its duration.
In cinemas October 17.
