iPhone 5: What to expect from Apple’s new smartphone…

With just days to go until the next Apple press conference, our tech correspondent Luke Smith takes a look at what’s getting Mac heads all over the planet rather excited…

First up, I wouldn’t expect it to be called the iPhone 5. Remember the ipad 3 launch? The decision simply to call their new device “The new iPad” took everyone by surprise – are we about to see the launch of not the iPhone 5, but infact the “new iPhone” !?

The iPhone 5 Rumours:

Appearance: One apparently “leaked” bit of info was that the phone would be made entirely of glass. While apple have in fact patented a design like this, it would seem we are a few years off of quite such a futuristic design.

Operating System: The new iPhone will use a new interface, like no-other! Hmm, this seems very unlikely now that iOS6 has been revealed. Also, why would we want to depart from an OS we all know and love!

A bigger screen: Yes, this is one rumour that seems to be coming true!

The iPhone 5 Facts:

We won’t really know until Wednesday, but these are now generally accepted as gospel!

A brand new design: Yes, apple have suggested there’s a new look. But I would say don’t expect all-glass or curved backs. What we’ll probably be getting is a slimmer, slightly wider all-alluminium design.

More RAM: Maybe twice as much as the 4S, meaning more apps running together, and faster scrolling through pictures.

A faster processor: The new iPad is way ahead of the 2 thanks to the i5 processor. The iphone will be sporting this too. Or possible even a “6”!

A new connector: This one, in my opinion is not so exciting. The new processing power will require quicker transfer rates and the phones new thinner design will require a slimmer connector, so expect to be replacing that in-car charger and all your hi-fi docks if you are looking forward to the new iPhone!
